Potions
Please read over the lesson and reply to this with a role play of how it went while you made the potion. The longer and more creative the better, and you will earn more points for more effort. Things don't always have to go according to plan in your RP. Describe the various stages and colors of your potion and interactions with other students.
Week 11/16/07 Lesson
You are waiting outside the dungeon eager for your first Potions class at Hogwarts to begin. It is really rather dark down there and you smell a strange damp odor. You look around at your fellow students waiting, and most look shy and it makes you feel a little better. Your mind wanders as you wait patiently for the Professor to arrive.
Then suddenly a tall strange looking man walks swiftly past you, making no eye contact with anyone. You can tell by his briskness he is the Professor, he opens the door to the class and the students shuffle in after him. The room is poorly lit, by torches on the stone walls. There are 3 rows of desk on each side of the class room, leaving a small walkway up to the front were the Professor's desk was.
Now that he wasn't moving so quickly you had a better chance to get a good look at your new Professor. He had golden brown hair and his eyes were a piercing green color. His rush seemed to fade away as he looked at the excited class, and he seemed nice enough.
"Welcome to your first Potion lesson at Hogwarts! I'm Professor Teaken, and I will be your instructor for the remainder of your stay at Hogwarts."
The class exchanged eager glances at each other.
"For todays lesson we will be brewing a simple Drought of Hunger. This potion will cause the drinkers hunger to subside for up to 3 hours. You will need to grab the following ingredients from the supply cabinet."
He motioned to a large cabinet on the left wall.
"1 Frogs leg
2 Owl pellets
3 Cups Lake water
1 Dash Ground Dragon scale
You will need to mix the ingredients together and stir counter clockwise for three minutes, the clockwise for 17 seconds. Let boil for 19 minutes. Then bottle and leave on my desk for grading."

I made the potion, and did just what you said, but it turned a pretty silver color. I was wondering, what color was the potion supposd to be? I thought it would turn a red-orange.

i got one frog leg, was it supposed to be a set of frog legs? two owl pellets, three cups of lake water, and a teaspoon of ground dragon scale, i dont know what a dash is. it turned a silver coulor. was it supposed to do that? i would like to talk to you about it if you have free time.

i mixed evry thing you said and i got a pretty silver coler too. what is it really soposed to be and am i doing it right?

As I walked over to the cabinet to gather supplies I started to think that this professor seems to be a lot nicer then his predecessor, I've heard horrible stories from the past. Maybe I should keep to myself for the first day until I can figure him out. Hmmm, 1" frogs leg: check, 2 owl pellets: check, 3 cups lake water: check, 1 Dash ground Dragon scale: check (i hope my dash is the same size as the potion requires). I return to my cauldron and add my ingredients into it, following the order in which they were given. Ok here we go counterclockwise, I find myself concentrating really hard to make sure i don't miss my 3 minuet mark, I watch intensely as the colors start to mix from clear to blue to green, to black. Oh time to go clockwise, one two three, hmm why is everyones potions turning a slivery color ( eight nine ten) that doesn't look very hungry quenching ( fourteen fifteen sixteen) woo done. Boil 19 minutes. Nice I can't believe I've done it. I mark the time add 19 minuets and wait. I'm looking around and noticing other students starting to finish. So far I've only seen a couple of people turning their potions in and they were sliver colors.......... mines not turning out to be silver (oh no did i do it wrong). Maybe I messed but the boiling process somehow, 19 minuets I ladle some into a flask, as I walk up to the desk I wonder if I'm going to get good marks, I think to myself at least a shiny reddish color looks more appealing to a hungry appetite then silver, I don't know, I hope its right!!
